BUILDING AN 'ECOSYSTEM OF INCLUSIVE EDUCATION' IN KARJAT: As Samaaveshi completes three years, we have a better understanding of the local challenges and realities that determine/impact access to quality education for rural children in Karjat. One of the pressing issues is the lack of electricity (50% local Anganwadis/pre-schools do not have electricity). Secondly, despite heavy rains, most tribal villages here do not have a reliable water supply/ access to clean drinking water. Further, COVID-19 has resulted in an alarming rise in rural unemployment. Hence, Samaaveshi plans to embark on a journey of solar innovations to find solutions to these local problems. From 5 solar, smart Anganwadis in 2021, to 150 solar Anganwadis by 2025; and 20 solar skilled youth in 2021, to 500+ youth by 2025 (including 100 persons with disability) - we plan to build a network of 'inclusive' solar villages in Karjat. Besides, we plan to continue building an ecosystem of inclusive education in Karjat through an integrated approach comprising an inclusive school, community libraries (resource centres), and teacher-training on inclusive education skills.
